James and Thelma "Jackie" JewellJames and Thelma "Jackie" Jewell of Austin, formerly of Jackson County, Indiana, passed away at 1:00 PM, Sunday, December 13, 2009, in a car accident.

On November 2, 1946, at the home of Walter Mosley in Uniontown, James married Thelma "Jackie" Masters. The couple were members of Trinity Church of Prayer in Austin. They loved working in the yard together landscaping and caring for the hundreds of beautiful flowers they grew. James enjoyed watching and following sports in his leisure time, and Jackie loved to cook and make special treats.

Survivors include a son, Larry C. Jewell of Union City, Indiana; one grandson, Michael (Penny) Jewell of New Lebanon, Ohio; and two great grandchildren, Josh and Taylor Jewell of New Lebanon, Ohio.

James is also survived by one brother, Hershel H. (Deloris) Jewell of Scottsburg, Indiana, Indiana; and two sisters, Marie Barnes of Crothersville, Indiana; and Cleta Alexander of Austin, Indiana. James was preceded in death by four brothers: Brown, Eugene, Kerney, and Conley Jewell; and two sisters: Nazie Brandenburg and Nettie Begley.

Jackie is also survived by one brother C.J. (Mary) Masters of Crothersville, Indiana. She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Harlan, Herbert and Leaford Masters; and six sisters: Naltia Browning, Opal Vanscoy, Mary Eula Roberts, Jewell Frazier, Betty King and one stillborn.

James, 83, worked at Morgan's Packing Company in Print Dept., Wehauerser factory that produced Milk cartons, and then worked for Cummins Engine Company for twenty-one years retiring in 1987 as an order filler. Born on April 19, 1926 in Athel, Kentucky, he was the son of late Lee and Maggie E. (Palmer) Jewell. He served in the United States Army enlisting on July 3, 1944 and being honorably discharged on May 25, 1946.

Jackie, 84, worked at Morgan's in the cafeteria for twelve years, starting when she was seventeen years old. She then worked at the former U.S. Shoe Factory packing heels for fifteen years. Born on December 16, 1924 in Lancaster, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Willie G. and Fairie G. (McLeara) Masters.

Pastor Billy Joe Deaton will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Crothersville Cemetery.

Friends may visit on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Adams Funeral Home in Crothersville and after 9:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
